In a ₹206 crore project, the Delhi Division of Northern Railway will install Kavach Version 4.0, India’s own Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, over 680 route kilometres (RKm) of the Rewari-Delhi and Shakurbasti-Bathinda sections, including feeder branch lines. This initiative is a huge step forward in the construction of high-tech railway safety infrastructure across the country.
The green-lit project is a part of the larger Kavach rollout underway across high-density and strategically vital railway corridors in India. A more secure, intelligent, and technologically advanced rail network that can accommodate rising volumes of both passenger and freight traffic is the goal of the government, and this program is helping to make that a reality.
By lowering the likelihood of train crashes and Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD) events, Kavach—an Automatic Train Protection system—developed in India greatly enhances railway safety. In order to make train operations safer, the system constantly watches the train’s movement and puts the brakes on when the loco pilot doesn’t react to safety warnings.
Additionally, trains can run at the maximum legal speed while still being operationally safe thanks to the cutting-edge Kavach Version 4.0. Furthermore, it improves the dependability and timeliness of railway operations in poor weather, such as heavy fog, when visibility is low.
Passenger and goods train reliability, operational efficiency and safety are all anticipated to improve with the deployment of Kavach on these critical Northern Railway corridors. Better traffic control and more effective use of railway infrastructure are two other benefits of this technology.
Indian Railways’ dedication to digital transformation, indigenous innovation, and world-class railway safety is highlighted by the spread of Kavach across important routes, which is part of the organization’s modernisation effort. India is stepping up its efforts to construct a futuristic rail network with cutting-edge safety technology, and this project is just one more step in that direction.
