With 26.35 crore validated APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) IDs generated across the country up until July 2, India has achieved a notable milestone in digital education. Every student will have access to a unique digital academic identity for the duration of their education thanks to this new scheme, which is part of the larger “One Nation, One Student ID” project.
The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) system is associated with the 12-digit APAAR ID, which is a distinct student identity number. All of a student’s academic records, including those from their college, vocational school, skill development programs, and professional learning experiences, are safely stored on one digital platform that can be accessed through DigiLocker and the ABC platform.
Under the NAD-ABC framework, school education data will also be merged with APAAR IDs, according to an official factsheet. In order to make APAAR IDs more accessible, students in underserved and rural areas can visit their local Common Service Centre (CSC) to get one.
By facilitating the accumulation, storage, transfer, and redemption of academic credits, the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) strives to construct an adaptable, learner-centred educational system. National Credit Framework (NCrF) and National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 goals are in sync with the endeavour.
Students who briefly stop attending school do not lose any of their earned credits, which is a major perk of the system. These credits are safely saved in the ABC repository and can be used when students return to school. students have a seven-year validity term for transferring and using them.
Simplifying academic record administration, improving transparency, facilitating smooth credit mobility between institutions, and making education more accessible, flexible, and student-friendly across India are all goals of the trusted digital education ecosystem that APAAR and ABC are working to create.
