In observance of World Environment Day 2026, the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) held a number of sustainability-focused events at the Employees Recreation Centre in Mangaluru. These events served to highlight the company’s continued dedication to environmental protection and climate action.
“Inspired by Nature” was the overarching concept that guided the event’s planning. Regarding Global Warming. For Our Future.” and convened business moguls, ecologists, workers, and other interested parties to advocate for eco-friendly policies and procedures.
Renowned environmentalist and social reformer Shyam Sundar Paliwal, a resident of Piplantri, Rajasthan, and a recipient of the Padma Shri award, was present as the event’s Chief Guest. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Manju R., the Environmental Officer from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) in Mangaluru.
In the presence of senior MRPL leadership, including Executive Director (Refinery) Nandakumar Velayudhan Pillai, Director (Finance) & CFO Devendra Kumar, Executive Director (Marketing & Business Development) Deepak Prabhakar P., and Executive Director (Projects) P. Sujith, the event began with the ceremonial lighting of a lamp and watering of a plant.
In his address to the audience, Shyam Sundar Paliwal emphasised the significance of reforestation, environmental safeguarding, and resource preservation. In order to preserve the planet for the benefit of generations to come, he urged people and groups to start living more sustainably.
The prototype PET bottle recycling plant is just one example of MRPL’s sustainability efforts; Director (Refinery) Nandakumar V. Pillai also highlighted the significance of climate action and the energy transition, highlighting the company’s dedication to environmental protection.
Reducing plastic consumption, conserving natural resources, and adequately segregating garbage were among the environmentally responsible actions suggested by Director (Finance) and CFO Devendra Kumar.
Dr. Manju R. commended MRPL for its environmental initiatives and stressed the importance of young people in promoting sustainability and raising environmental consciousness.
The program featured MRPL presenting important environmental performance achievements and the administration of the Environment Pledge in Kannada, Hindi, and English, all with the goal of fostering a sense of common responsibility for sustainable practices.
As part of the ceremony, the Managing Director read out a special message in which he urged all MRPL employees to be “brand ambassadors for sustainability” and help with environmental preservation initiatives.
Dinesh Attavar’s group from Mangaluru brought a creative element to the festivities with a skit that brought attention to the negative consequences of youth cell phone addiction. Many of the audience members expressed their admiration for the performance.
The event came to a close with the winners of the competitions held during MRPL’s month-long Environment Drive being presented with their prizes. To further promote sustainable lifestyle choices outside of work, participants were also given saplings and environmentally friendly jute bags.
The party was a reflection of MRPL’s ongoing efforts to incorporate sustainability, social responsibility, and the environment into the company’s ethos and procedures.
The 2026 World Environment Day festivities at MRPL highlighted the firm’s dedication to environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and sustainability. Supporting India’s larger sustainability and energy transition objectives, MRPL maintains its commitment to promoting good environmental practices through awareness programs, green initiatives, recycling projects, and community involvement activities.
