West Bengal Airports: State to Sign MoU with Centre for 4 Projects

West Bengal will sign a tripartite MoU with the Centre for four airports under the UDAN scheme, aimed at strengthening regional air connectivity and supporting economic growth.

The West Bengal Airports plan is set to move forward as the state government signs a tripartite MoU with the Centre today. The agreement will cover the development of four airports under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme.

The MoU will support efforts to improve regional air connectivity across West Bengal. It is also expected to create new opportunities for investment, tourism and employment.

West Bengal Airports to Boost Regional Connectivity

The agreement will be signed in Kolkata in the presence of Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and representatives of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal and Transport Minister Arjun Singh are also expected to attend the ceremony.

The proposed West Bengal Airports will come up at four locations:

  • Charra in Purulia
  • Kalaikunda in Paschim Medinipur
  • Balurghat in South Dinajpur
  • Hasimara in Alipurduar

West Bengal Airports to Support Economic Activity

The four airport projects are expected to improve connectivity between regional centres and other parts of the state.

Better air connectivity can support regional economic activity, investment and tourism. The projects are also expected to create employment opportunities during development and operations.

UDAN Scheme to Strengthen Air Connectivity

The projects are being taken up under the Centre’s UDAN scheme, which aims to improve regional air connectivity and make air travel more accessible.

The development of the four West Bengal Airports is expected to strengthen the state’s aviation infrastructure. It will also support better access to emerging economic and tourism destinations across the state.

The MoU marks a step towards expanding regional aviation infrastructure in West Bengal and improving connectivity across the state.
