On Thursday, the government of Uttar Pradesh and the Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together on green hydrogen technology. This is a big deal for clean energy cooperation between Japan and India.
The agreement, according to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will pave the way for the implementation of green hydrogen technology in Uttar Pradesh’s energy, public transportation, and industrial sectors while also allowing students from Uttar Pradesh’s higher technical schools to undergo specialised training in Japan. It was pointed out by him that the project is in line with the net zero goal set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
At the ‘UP Investment Road Show’ in Yamanashi, the chief minister displayed the investment potential of Uttar Pradesh to global business executives while highlighting the state’s transition from ‘reactive to proactive’ governance. Recognising robotics as an important emerging technology, he also announced funding to create a robotics centre of excellence.
Inviting international investors to explore potential, Chief Minister Yogi highlighted the state’s robust demographics, arable land, plentiful water supplies, and growing industrial ecosystem.
He went on to say that the green hydrogen collaboration is the result of the intensified bilateral cooperation that has been going on since the governor of Yamanashi visited Uttar Pradesh in December 2024.
