Hyderabad, July 04 The 24thedition of the Neyveli Book Fair, one of the most popular and eagerly awaited literary events in the country, was formally inaugurated today, by Union Minister for Coal & Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, through virtual mode, in the august presence of Secretary (Mines), Additional Secretary (Coal), Chairman & Managing Director of Coal India Limited (CIL), and Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman & Managing Director, NLC India Limited.
Inaugurating the 24th Neyveli Book Fair on the sidelines of the International Conference on Sustainable and Responsible Mining at Hyderabad, the Union Minister appreciated NLC India Limited for its consistent efforts in fostering a culture of reading and intellectual development in society through this flagship annual literary event.
He lauded the Neyveli Book Fair as a significant platform that promotes knowledge, inclusivity, and community engagement—values that are vital in the making of a developed India. Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, the nation is steadfastly progressing towards the goal of becoming a developed country by 2047. In this transformative journey of Viksit Bharat @ 2047, initiatives like the Neyveli Book Fair play a vital role in nurturing an informed, empowered, and aspirational youth.
During the virtual inauguration, a short video was played showcasing the key highlights and community impact of the Neyveli Book Fair. The Minister expressed admiration for the scale, inclusiveness, and commitment demonstrated by NLCIL in organizing the event and commended the team for advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047 by empowering citizens through the power of knowledge.
In his address, the Minister also praised NLCIL for its broader contributions to society beyond literature. He specifically acknowledged the company’s efforts in supplying water for agricultural needs in the surrounding regions and for meeting a significant portion of Chennai city’s drinking water requirements. He highlighted these initiatives as commendable examples of how a public sector enterprise can contribute meaningfully to national development while acting as a catalyst for regional upliftment.
This year’s 24thNeyveli Book Fair, being held from 4thto 14thJuly 2025, features 190 stalls by leading publishers and booksellers from across India. Under the leadership of CMD Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, several initiatives such as free entry for school and college students and enhanced local bus services from the Arch Gate of NLCIL have been implemented to ensure accessibility and convenience.
It can be fondly recalled that former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, during his visit to Neyveli, had expressed his keen interest in visiting the Neyveli Book Fair—reflecting the fair’s relevance and appeal to even the most eminent minds of the country.
The fair also includes a wide array of attractions such as a Mini-Planetarium for students, a Vigilance Rath for public awareness, screening of short films, on-the-spot competitions for children, spacious walkways, amusement rides, and a dedicated food court—making it a vibrant cultural and educational hub for the Neyveli region.
