TRAI Suggests Permitting Private FM Stations to Air 10 Minutes of News Every Hour

TRAI has recommended that private FM radio operators in India be allowed to broadcast news and current affairs for up to 10 minutes each hour, adhering to the central government’s prescribed code.

Additionally, it proposed that authorized FM operators stream their programs online, with restrictions on user-controlled features.

These recommendations are part of a report on FM auction reserve prices requested by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

TRAI suggested specific reserve prices for various cities and proposed financial measures to support FM operators, including a percentage-based fee structure and sharing of infrastructure by Prasar Bharati at reduced rates.
