The landmark Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) States – Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway – officially entered into force today, marking a new chapter in India’s trade diplomacy.
The occasion was celebrated at a high-level event in New Delhi, hosted by Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry of India. Switzerland was represented by Helene Budliger Artieda, Swiss State Secretary for Economic Affairs, along with senior officials and business leaders from both sides.
Speaking at the event, State Secretary Helene Budliger Artieda underlined the significance of the agreement, stating:
“This agreement is more than a legal document. It is a win-win partnership for our countries. The strong presence of companies from Switzerland and other EFTA countries at today’s prosperity summit speaks for itself. These businesses are here because they believe in India and are ready to use the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement. They see the potential, they want to invest, and they are ready to be part of India’s growth story. Swiss and Indian economies are complementary. The TEPA will bring these complementarities together for the benefit of both Switzerland and India.”
The TEPA is expected to reduce tariffs, promote investments, and enhance collaboration in trade, services, technology, and sustainability, unlocking new opportunities for businesses across both regions.
