Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has officially acquired the exclusive media rights for the 20th Asian Games, set to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026. This landmark agreement ensures that the prestigious continental event will be broadcast across the Sony Sports Network and live-streamed on the Sony LIV platform for viewers throughout India and the subcontinent.
The acquisition comes at a time of peak interest in multi-sport events, following India’s historic performance in the previous edition, where the national contingent secured a record-breaking 107 medals. SPNI leaders highlighted that this achievement has ignited a new wave of enthusiasm among Indian fans, making the upcoming Games a highly anticipated event for national pride and viewership.
The 2026 Games will feature a diverse lineup of 41 disciplines, ranging from 32 Olympic sports to newer additions like mixed martial arts and surfing. For Indian audiences, cricket is expected to be a major highlight, with both the men’s and women’s national teams competing for top honors on the continental stage. This inclusion is projected to drive significant engagement across both linear television and digital streaming platforms.
As the “Home of Sports,” Sony plans to deliver comprehensive coverage that includes expert analysis and multi-language programming to enhance the viewer experience. While the Asian Games have secured a strong broadcasting partner, the industry remains watchful as other major global events, such as the upcoming FIFA World Cup, continue to seek dedicated takers in the Indian market.
