India’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for solar modules has created approximately 43,000 jobs across nine states by October 2025.
This includes about 11,220 direct jobs from solar manufacturing units, with Gujarat leading at over 22,400 jobs, followed by Tamil Nadu (6,800 jobs) and Andhra Pradesh (1,620 jobs).
The scheme, supported by a financial outlay of Rs 24,000 crore, aims to boost domestic solar manufacturing, with an anticipated expansion of capacity to 165 GW by March 2027, influenced by supportive policies and incentives.
India remains reliant on imports despite growth in local manufacturing, with China dominating the global solar supply chain.
