SECL Conducts Two-Day Training for OHS Medical Officers

South Eastern Coalfields Limited organised a two-day SECL OHS Refresher Programme for Occupational Health Services (OHS) Medical Officers on October 8 and 9, 2026, at the Management Development Institute (MDI), Bilaspur. The programme focused on strengthening occupational health practices and improving medical officers’ understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.

SECL conducted the programme under the guidance of Dr Shrutidev Mishra, CMS In-charge, SECL. It brought together Area Medical Officers and Occupational Health Physicians from all areas of the company to discuss key aspects of occupational health management and the implementation of applicable provisions.

SECL OHS Refresher Programme Covers Occupational Health

The first day featured lectures on occupational health delivered by Dr Arihant Jain from SECL Headquarters and Dr C. Pavan Kumar from Korba Area. These sessions formed part of the programme’s focus on refreshing medical officers’ knowledge and supporting occupational health practices across SECL’s operational areas.

The sessions provided a platform for participating medical professionals to engage with occupational health topics relevant to their responsibilities. The programme also brought together medical officers from different areas of SECL, enabling them to participate in a common training initiative.

Day Two Focuses on OHC Gap Analysis and Medical Examinations

The second day focused on Occupational Health Centre (OHC) Gap Analysis and medical examination provisions under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (OSHWC) Code. Dr Kaushik Sarkar, Senior Consultant, Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Western Zone, led the session.

The discussions addressed OHC gap analysis and the provisions governing medical examinations under the code. These subjects formed the core of the second day’s programme, with a focus on occupational health requirements relevant to the participating medical officers.

SECL Strengthens Occupational Health Practices

Area Medical Officers and Occupational Health Physicians from all areas of SECL participated in the two-day programme. The initiative aimed to strengthen occupational health practices and promote effective implementation of the applicable provisions.

Through the refresher programme, SECL brought its medical officers together for focused sessions on occupational health, OHC gap analysis and medical examination requirements. The training formed part of the company’s efforts to support occupational health management across its areas.
