The Indian government has allocated a budget of Rs 12,118 crore for the redevelopment of railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme for 2025-26, having spent Rs 7,253 crore up to October.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed Parliament that 1,337 stations have been earmarked for development, with 155 completed so far. Some stations are also being considered for development through Public Private Partnerships (PPP).

The initiative emphasizes long-term planning, focusing on comprehensive master plans to enhance accessibility, integration, and facilities at the stations. Improvements include expanding waiting areas, enhancing station infrastructure, and providing better amenities such as lifts and escalators.

Additionally, the scheme aims to ensure sustainable practices within the redevelopment process, including the implementation of ballastless tracks and the creation of city centers.
