President Murmu Says Constitution Is Key to Overcoming Colonial Mindset

On Constitution Day, President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the enduring significance of India’s Constitution, which protects citizens’ personal and democratic rights.

At the event in Parliament, she highlighted the completion of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949, and praised the progress made in lifting 25 crore people out of poverty.

Murmu noted key legislative achievements, including the empowerment of women through the repeal of triple talaq and the Nari Shakti Bandhan Act, as well as the elimination of Article 370.

A digital version of the Constitution was released in nine languages, and attendees reaffirmed their commitment to its principles by reading the Preamble. Constitution Day, established in 2015, is celebrated every November 26 to honor the values enshrined in the Constitution.
