On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Swiss President Guy Parmelin deliberated ways to enhance trade, investment, and technological cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the area of artificial intelligence innovation. These talks occurred during the AI Impact Summit in India.
Discussions centred on future-ready partnerships to promote technological cooperation, quality investments, and the creation of jobs for young people, as well as the implementation of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), which will become effective in October 2025.
Geneva, Switzerland, will play host to the 2027 Artificial Intelligence Summit. The importance of the event in fostering a worldwide conversation about the responsible use, governance, and regulation of artificial intelligence was highlighted by President Parmelin. ‘With an unprecedented velocity, AI is altering our future,’ he remarked. To guarantee that AI helps everyone, governments must collaborate.
While in attendance at the summit, Parmelin viewed Switzerland’s exhibit, which highlighted the nation’s innovative spirit and outstanding research capabilities. Developing AI, he emphasised, must safeguard basic rights and bring innovation into harmony with accountability.
