PM Modi Calls for Daily Yoga Practice on International Yoga Day 2026

On the occasion of the 12th International Day of Yoga, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged individuals to make yoga a daily habit, highlighting that it is more than just an exercise; it is a complete way of life that improves one’s physical health, emotional stability, and overall quality of life.

At a large yoga event on Red Road in Kolkata, the prime minister made the statement that yoga is now a worldwide phenomenon that knows no borders. Because yoga brings people together and encourages harmony, he said, June 21 has grown into one of the biggest global community festivals.

Prime Minister Modi has spoken about the many ways in which yoga improves health, including the fact that it allows practitioners to keep their energy and focus as they get older. Incorporating yoga into family routines, he said, can help people become more physically healthy and mentally strong, which in turn makes it easier for them to maintain an active and energetic lifestyle throughout their lives.

Instead of reserving yoga for rare events or yearly celebrations, the prime minister urged people to include it into their daily routines. Yoga, in his view, may play a larger role in creating a better future by influencing societal shifts toward more health and harmony.

In his speech, Prime Minister Modi paid homage to Swami Vivekananda, an important figure in bringing the yogic and spiritual traditions of India to the world, and he emphasised the strong ties that West Bengal has with yoga. A way to self-realization, inner joy, and holistic development of both mind and body is yoga, according to the Prime Minister, who cited Swami Vivekananda’s teachings.

He stressed that yoga is an ancient practice with strong roots in Indian culture and that it has contemporary relevance as a means to self-improvement, tranquillity, and equilibrium.

Yoga, according to the prime minister, is most effective when practiced in conjunction with a moderate and disciplined lifestyle. In order to attain total health and harmony in life, he said, one must do yoga in conjunction with moderate work, eating, and sleep patterns, drawing on the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.

Posting photos from the event on the social media site X, Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed that yoga improves people’s lives in every way, from their physical health to their mental and emotional stability. Seeing people of all walks of life participate so enthusiastically in the festivities in Kolkata brought him great joy, he said.

Attendees included West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who spoke to the crowd and highlighted the long tradition of yoga in his home state. He was pleased with the widespread celebrations happening all over Bengal this year and said that yoga is deeply ingrained in Bengali culture.

The chief minister of West Bengal has stated that one crore people across the state are anticipated to participate in the International Day of Yoga, which the people of West Bengal have enthusiastically embraced. He spoke highly of the event, saying it was a watershed moment in drawing attention to the importance of health, wellbeing, and traditional Indian practices.

Thousands of people practiced yoga with Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Adhikari after the speeches, with the goal of improving participants’ physical and mental health via the practice of various yoga poses and breathing techniques.

Celebrated every year on June 21, the International Day of Yoga is quickly becoming one of India’s most well-known cultural and wellness events, inspiring millions of people around the world to live better, more balanced lives.
