Leadership Change at NLC India
Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya has assumed charge as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of NLC India Limited. He took over the role on September 17, 2026, at the company’s corporate office in Neyveli.
Before his appointment as NLC India CMD, Dr. Acharya served as Director (Finance) and CFO of NLC India. His appointment follows approval from the Government of India. He has taken charge from Sanoj Kumar Jha, who was holding the additional charge of CMD. The appointment is for a five-year term, subject to the applicable government terms and conditions.
NLC India CMD Brings Three Decades of Experience
Dr. Acharya has nearly three decades of professional experience across the power, mining and infrastructure sectors. He has held key positions at organisations such as GRIDCO, NTPC and Tata Power.
His experience covers power generation, transmission, distribution and mining. It also includes metro rail infrastructure. He contributed to major infrastructure initiatives, including Phase-II of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, a project estimated at more than ₹63,000 crore.
At NLC India, Dr. Acharya has worked on several digital transformation and governance initiatives. These include ERP modernisation, centralisation of finance functions, AI-enabled systems and the introduction of a Vendor Invoice Management System.
Digital Transformation and Business Growth
Dr. Acharya has also contributed to securing government approvals for strategic projects. His work includes initiatives related to coal blocks, critical mineral blocks and renewable energy projects.
His tenure at NLC India has also involved strengthening governance systems and supporting the company’s broader growth plans. These initiatives are aligned with NLC India’s expansion across conventional power, mining and renewable energy.
NLC India’s 2030 Growth Roadmap
NLC India is pursuing an expansion roadmap for 2030. The company aims to achieve more than 20 GW of power generation capacity and over 100 MTPA of mining capacity by 2030.
The leadership transition comes as the company works to expand its operating capacity and strengthen its presence across the energy and mining sectors.
Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya: Qualifications
Dr. Acharya has academic qualifications in commerce, law and management. He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India and an Associate Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.
He also holds a Ph.D. from Utkal University. In addition, he completed a Strategic Finance Management Development Programme at IIM Lucknow.
With experience spanning finance, power, mining and infrastructure, Dr. Acharya will lead NLC India as it advances its capacity expansion and 2030 growth roadmap.
