Indian Aviation Boom : Airports, Aircraft and Flyers Double in NDA’s 11-Year Tenure

 Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu highlighted the NDA government’s focus on civil aviation, noting a doubling of airports, aircraft, and passengers over the past 11 years. While inaugurated the new terminal building at Donyi Polo Airport in Arunachal Pradesh, he emphasizing improved connectivity in the Northeast.

The new terminal marks a significant development, funded by both Central and state governments. Further plans include strengthening regional links and heliport development under the extended #UDANscheme, which has been renewed for 10 years.

The government is also considering free Wi-Fi for passengers, more charging stations, and workstations. Passenger-centric initiatives at Donyi Polo Airport include the UDAN Yatri Cafe, a Flybrary (book exchange), the AVASAR initiative for local product sales, and a children’s store.

The airport’s new terminal can handle 15 lakh passengers annually, a substantial increase from the previous capacity. Flight frequency to Delhi will double from four to seven days a week starting September 17, with Indigo operating daily flights connecting Itanagar to a major hub. The airport currently also connects to Guwahati, Kolkata, and Tezu.
