During a meeting between Spain’s Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, and India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, the two countries’ commitments to enhancing industrial ties and constructing resilient supply chains were reinforced. Trade, investment, manufacturing, innovation, tourism, and other future-ready industries can generate sustainable economic growth and job creation. The leaders examined new prospects to enhance engagement in these areas.
The two ministers reaffirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening economic cooperation and discussed the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (India-EU FTA). Businesses in both nations stand to benefit from the partnership’s efforts to forge closer industrial ties, broaden supply chain diversity, and provide access to new markets.
Piyush Goyal, speaking at the India-Spain Business Forum in Madrid, urged leaders and companies to aim for a tenfold increase in trade and investment between the two countries in the next decade. Among the many promising areas for bilateral cooperation, he singled out cutting-edge manufacturing, transportation, rail, sustainability, innovation, science, the arts, and culture.
To reach this lofty goal, the minister of commerce laid out four main objectives: increasing government-to-government collaboration, boosting tourist and talent exchanges, encouraging deeper investments in each other’s sectors, and taking use of opportunities presented by the India-EU FTA. A more solid basis for sustained economic involvement would be laid by these steps, he claimed.
The planned India-EU Free Trade Agreement has garnered strong feedback from Indian companies and widespread support from all 27 EU member states, according to Goyal, who was emphasising the agreement’s importance. He asserts that the deal may greatly enhance trading, investment, and industrial collaboration between Europe and India.
The European Union and India together make up around 30% of the world’s economy and trade, which presents tremendous prospects to enhance cooperation in the fields of innovation, education, tourism, culture, space, defence, and technology. This wider strategic alliance is anticipated to be further fortified, and economic resilience and global competitiveness would be enhanced, through the deepening of relations between India and Spain.
