India, Qatar Eye Trade Expansion and Stronger Supply Chains: Piyush Goyal

In light of escalating geopolitical tensions, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met virtually with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign commercial Affairs, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed, on Thursday to discuss measures to enhance investment and commercial relations between the two countries.

In light of the dynamic nature of international trade, the two parties met to explore potential avenues for strengthening economic cooperation and fortifying supply chains.

According to Goyal’s post on X, the strategic cooperation between India and Qatar may be further strengthened by discussing methods to improve bilateral trade and investment links and increase resilience in the supply chain. Goyal expressed optimism about this development in a post regarding India and Qatar.

Speaking independently, the minister emphasised the continuous endeavours to enhance commercial ties with foreign countries. While meeting with Anwar bin Hilal bin Hamdoun Al Jabri, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion of Oman, earlier this month, representatives from India and Oman deliberated how to realise potential benefits from a planned Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

Officials from India and the United States are presently meeting in Washington, D.C. to finalise the first portion of the proposed bilateral trade agreement, according to Goyal.

He had previously stated, “We have almost finalised the first tranche of the bilateral trade agreement,” and added that India is attempting to gain privileged access to the American market over its rivals.

After the U.S. Supreme Court invalidated President Trump’s reciprocal tariff rises, India and the US opted to reschedule meetings of their top trade negotiators.
