India Brazil Trade: $30 Billion Target Set for 2030

The India Brazil Trade partnership is set for further expansion, with both countries reaffirming their target of reaching $30 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. The two sides are focusing on pharmaceuticals, chemicals, engineering goods and machinery to build a more diversified and balanced economic partnership.

India Brazil Trade Reaches $15.07 Billion

Bilateral trade between India and Brazil reached $15.07 billion in 2025-26, providing a strong base for the new trade target. The two countries reviewed trade cooperation, market access, investment opportunities and sector-specific challenges during the 8th meeting of the India-Brazil Trade Monitoring Mechanism (TMM) in Brasilia.

The meeting was co-chaired by Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal and Tatiana Lacerda Prazeres, Secretary of Foreign Trade at Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services.

India Brazil Trade Focuses on Key Sectors

Both countries identified pharmaceuticals, chemicals, engineering goods and machinery as priority areas for expanding trade. India also highlighted the need for better market access and predictable regulatory processes to support Indian businesses operating in Brazil.

The two sides also discussed opportunities to strengthen investment ties and create greater business-to-business engagement.

India-MERCOSUR Trade Talks Gain Momentum

The India Brazil Trade discussions also covered the India-MERCOSUR trade partnership. Both sides reviewed progress on the India-MERCOSUR Terms of Reference and supported its early finalisation.

India-MERCOSUR trade reached $20.84 billion in 2025. The two sides see the modernisation of the India-MERCOSUR Preferential Trade Agreement as an opportunity to expand market access and create new opportunities for exporters.

Pharmaceutical and Agricultural Market Access

Market access for Indian pharmaceutical products in Brazil was another key area of discussion. India called for predictable regulatory pathways to help Indian pharmaceutical companies expand their presence in the Brazilian market.

The two countries also discussed agricultural trade. Both sides are working on priority phytosanitary requests and technical processes to facilitate reciprocal market access.

India and Brazil Strengthen Business Cooperation

India and Brazil reaffirmed their commitment to coordination through multilateral platforms, including BRICS, the G20 and the World Trade Organization. Both countries also highlighted the importance of an open and inclusive global trading system.

A high-level business reception brought together representatives from Indian and Brazilian companies. More than 25 businesses were part of the Indian delegation, providing an opportunity to strengthen commercial ties.

India Brazil Trade Gets New Business Push

The establishment of an ApexBrasil office in New Delhi is expected to further strengthen business connections between the two countries. The office is also expected to support greater Brazilian investment in India.

The renewed India Brazil Trade target of $30 billion by 2030 reflects the growing importance of the economic relationship. Greater cooperation in trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and MERCOSUR is expected to support future bilateral growth.
