IBBI Whole-Time Member Jayanti Prasad has taken additional charge as Chairperson following the retirement of Ravi Mital earlier this month.
IBBI Chairperson responsibilities have been assigned to Whole-Time Member Jayanti Prasad following the retirement of Ravi Mital earlier this month.
Jayanti Prasad assumed additional charge as Chairperson of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) with effect from September 13, 2026. He will continue to perform his existing responsibilities as Whole-Time Member, IBBI.
The regulator announced the arrangement in a release on Monday.
IBBI Chairperson Charge Until November 20
Prasad will hold the additional charge until November 20, 2026, when his tenure as Whole-Time Member ends.
The arrangement will also end if a new Chairperson assumes charge or if further orders are issued, whichever occurs earlier.
The temporary arrangement ensures continuity in the leadership of IBBI while the appointment of a new Chairperson is awaited.
Jayanti Prasad to Continue as Whole-Time Member
Along with his additional responsibility as Chairperson, Prasad will continue to discharge his existing duties as Whole-Time Member of IBBI.
His tenure as Whole-Time Member is scheduled to end on November 20, 2026.
The arrangement provides for continued leadership of the regulator during the transition to a new Chairperson.
Role of IBBI in Insolvency Regulation
The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India is the statutory regulator for India’s insolvency and bankruptcy framework.
IBBI operates under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. It regulates insolvency professionals and insolvency professional agencies.
The regulator also oversees key institutions and processes involved in the time-bound resolution of stressed assets.
The additional charge arrangement will maintain leadership of IBBI while the process for appointing a new Chairperson continues.
