The Indian government will establish over 500 data labs nationwide under the ‘India AI Mission’ to boost AI talent and infrastructure.
The mission, approved with an expenditure of Rs 10,300 crore, has selected eight companies, including Tech Mahindra and Fractal Analytics, to develop large language models (LLMs). A consortium led by IIT Bombay received Rs 988.6 crore for a 1 trillion-parameter LLM.
The initiative also focuses on sector-specific AI applications, sovereign LLMs trained on Indian data, and increasing the current 34,000 GPUs by an additional 10,000.
An AI framework is slated for release in ten days, alongside the development of industry-specific small language models (SLMs) for sectors like manufacturing, logistics, and agriculture.
