Delhi Introduces Hydrogen-Powered Bus Service at Central Vista with DMRC and Indian Oil

Launching a hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service in the Central Vista area, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has taken a significant stride toward environmentally friendly public transportation in the nation’s capital.

The initiative was launched in partnership with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Indian Oil Corporation Limited provided technical and fuel support. Beginning service in the Central Vista zone at 8:30 AM, two shuttle buses powered by hydrogen were flagged off from the Central Secretariat Metro Station for passenger service.

In the presence of senior officials from both organisations, Arvind Kumar, Director (Refineries) of IOCL, and Dr. Amit Kumar Jain, Director (Operations and Services) of DMRC, received the ceremonial keys of the buses. As part of its larger effort to reduce carbon emissions from public transport and reliance on fossil fuels, India has launched a hydrogen bus service.

Central Vista’s pilot project should give useful information for expanding hydrogen mobility solutions to other big cities in India.
