Peoples’ Foundation, a Delhi-NCR based social trust working in the field of Holistic Health, in collaboration with All India Institute of Ayurveda, Govt of India, New Delhi organised an Ayurved based Mega Health Camp and Medicine distribution in central Jail no. 3, Tihar jails.

The day-long camp was held for extensive health checkup and free medicine distribution to inmates and staff was inaugurated by SBK Singh, IPS, Director General of prisons, Delhi.

Before opening the camp, the DG also inaugurated – Ausadhi Udayan- a garden of medicinal plants – arranged by jail authorities and AIIA.Speaking on the occasion, the DG said that Ayurveda was best suited to the overall maintenance of health and lifestyle disorders without any side effects. He praised the joint initiative of AIIA and the Peoples’ Foundation, and Pramod Gupta, superintendent of Jail no. 3 for organising such noble initiative for the welfare of inmates. Pankaj Kumar, IAS, AIG (Prisons) and DIG Kuldeep Singh were also present during the inauguration ceremony.

V N Jha, President of the Peoples’ Foundation said that their organisation was committed to spread benefits and message of science of Ayurveda to large masses of Indian society. Peoples’ Foundation has been organising health camps in Tihar jail for last 4 years.

For this camp AIIA had committed and deployed a large contingent of doctors, paramedics and pharmacists. The team AIIA was led by Dr Rama Kant Yadav, Associate professor, Dr Ankur Tripathi and Dr A dedge Under their guidance thirteen post graduate scholars and junior doctors examined patients for six hours in two shifts.
A large pharmacy was set up and managed by the staff of AIIA, volunteers and coordinators of the Peoples’ Foundation.A total number of 360 patients with many lifestyle disorders and other issues were examined by the doctors. They prescribed and gave free medicines for 15-30 days to patients.
The camp was concluded in the evening with honouring the large contingent from AIIA and Peoples’ Foundation by presenting them with mementos. Mr Pramod Gupta, superintendent, jail no. 3 gave them a vote of thanks. SBK Singh, DG (prisons) too presented mementos to senior doctors in his office.
