Andhra Pradesh has launched major projects worth ₹11,359 crore to strengthen urban infrastructure across the state. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu virtually launched the projects from Kuppam on September 23, 2026. The programme covers 123 municipalities and municipal corporations.
The government has allocated ₹7,469 crore for 123 municipalities. Another ₹3,890 crore has been earmarked for the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).
For the first time, the state will use the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) for urban development projects. The model will help execute large infrastructure works without placing an immediate financial burden on urban local bodies.
Andhra Pradesh Urban Development Gets Infrastructure Push
The project package includes 2,165 km of roads at an estimated cost of ₹4,656 crore. It also includes 502 green urban parks with an allocation of ₹509 crore.
The programme will add 300 km of underground drainage and sewerage networks. It will also cover street lighting across 391 km at a cost of ₹247 crore. Another 210 km of central medians will be developed at ₹88 crore.
Naidu called for greater focus on urban livability. He also highlighted the growing “weekend economy” in urban centres. Citing studies, he said urban residents spend nearly 61% of their disposable income during weekends. He urged municipal authorities to use this spending pattern to create more local economic opportunities.
The state also plans to complete all pending Andhra Pradesh Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TIDCO) housing projects by 2027.
Housing, Water and Sanitation Drive Andhra Pradesh Urban Development
The government has distributed title deeds to 28,500 beneficiaries in Visakhapatnam. It plans to extend the exercise to more eligible families in areas without litigation.
Naidu also directed officials to speed up the Jal Jeevan Mission in urban areas. The focus is on providing round-the-clock safe drinking water to households. He also called for faster building permissions to support construction activity.
Sanitation forms another major part of the Andhra Pradesh Urban Development programme. Under the Swachh Andhra–Swarnandhra drive, municipalities have cleared 143 lakh tonnes of legacy waste.
Two waste-to-energy plants are currently operational. Four more are scheduled for completion shortly. Naidu directed authorities to strengthen scientific solid waste management across urban areas.
The state has outlined a broader ₹50,000 crore urban transformation pipeline. This includes ₹22,330 crore of ongoing works. Another ₹17,000 crore is planned for grounding within six months.
The government has set a long-term target of transforming every municipality into a “Swarna Municipality” by 2047. The programme brings together urban infrastructure, municipal services, housing, sanitation and local economic development under the state’s broader urban transformation agenda.
