Micron Technology’s semiconductor factory in Sanand, Gujarat, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking a significant milestone in the development of India’s chip manufacturing ecosystem.
With an area of five hundred thousand square feet, the Phase-1 cleanroom is one of the biggest in the world. For high-precision semiconductor manufacturing, where even little changes in the surrounding environment might interrupt production, the facility has been meticulously planned to satisfy Micron’s worldwide requirements.
The cleanroom necessitated 100 Olympic-sized swimming pools’ worth of concrete and three-and-a-half times the steel utilised in the Eiffel Tower, according to Chairman and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra. The factory has state-of-the-art air filtration, rigorous humidity and temperature controls, and complete backup systems to make sure activities don’t stop.
With research and development hubs in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, Micron has been operating in India since 2019, and the country is home to about 24,000 employees. We anticipate that India’s standing in the global semiconductor value chain will be strengthened by the Sanand facility.
