Adani Green Sets Global Record With Massive Battery Storage System Deployment

The world’s largest single-location battery storage deployment outside of China, a 3.37 GWh BESS at Khavda, Gujarat, was commissioned on Tuesday by Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL).

With the addition of 1.37 GWh in March 2026, AGEL’s total operating battery storage capacity at Khavda reached 3.37 GWh, as of the latest commissioning.

The project was finished within 10 months of on-site construction, according to the business, making it one of the fastest utility-scale battery storage installations globally.

Grid stability, support for peak-hour electricity demand, and reliable, round-the-clock renewable power delivery are all goals of the battery storage system, according to AGEL.

As renewable generation capacity in India keeps growing, large-scale energy storage will be crucial in the country’s upcoming clean energy transition, according to Executive Director Sagar Adani.

The investments in battery storage, he added, are part of a larger plan to construct robust, scalable renewable energy infrastructure on a worldwide scale.

If AGEL’s calculations are correct, the 3.37 GWh system has the capacity to store enough renewable energy to run one million homes for a full day, meeting the electrical demands of places like Goa, Indore, and Chandigarh.

More than 12 million LED bulbs can be powered continuously for 10 hours by the storage facility, demonstrating its importance in maintaining electricity systems that rely heavily on renewable energy.

To maximise operational efficiency, grid responsiveness, and dependability, the BESS merges lithium-ion battery technology with advanced energy management technologies.

With its prime location in Khavda, the project is part of AGEL’s larger strategy to produce renewable energy. By 2029, the business aims to construct a 30 GW renewable energy park. A 9.9 GW portion of this capacity is now active.

AGEL is planning to increase its battery storage capacity from 10 GWh in FY27 to 50 GWh in the next five years, further solidifying its commitment to clean power infrastructure driven by energy storage.
