Ravi K Takes Charge as CMD of HAL, Strengthening India’s Defence Sector

Ravi K has succeeded D K Sunil, who retired on April 30, 2026, as the 22nd Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Ravi K. has worked in the aerospace, defence, manufacturing, and electronics industries for over 30 years. He was Director (Operations) at HAL before, where he helped the business achieve Maharatna status through strategic planning.

In his vision, he highlighted the need of making HAL a world-class aerospace and military company that is innovative, AI-powered, and operationally excellent.

In his tenure at HAL, Ravi K. has served as Executive Director (Corporate Planning), General Manager of the LCA Tejas Division, and in a number of other senior capacities. Many large contracts were secured because of him. For example, the Indian Air Force received 180 LCA Tejas aircraft and the Indian Army and Air Force received 156 LCH Prachand helicopters.

He is also known for enhancing serviceability and operationalising the Tejas fleet through customer-focused efforts. These initiatives included streamlining support systems and improving data interface with Air Force facilities.

Increasing local content and growing production capacity in Nashik were two ways Ravi K developed indigenous skills within the Tejas program during his tenure. By forming partnerships with private sector companies to handle critical assembly, he improved HAL’s manufacturing ecosystem and sped up delivery times.

Not only that, but he has spearheaded HAL’s efforts to diversify into civil manufacturing and MRO services, opening up new avenues of revenue generation and increasing the company’s presence in the market.

After attending Malnad College of Engineering for Mechanical Engineering, Ravi K went on to complete his education at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and ISAE-SUPAERO. At Multi-Role Transport Aircraft Limited, he is a Nominee Director as well.
