JSW Energy Set to Take Full Ownership of JSW Mahanadi Power

A major change in ownership in India’s power sector may affect how investors feel about JSW Energy shares.

With the activation of a critical provision, JSW Energy Limited will be able to acquire full control of JSW Mahanadi Power Company Limited.

Attention all investors: JSW Energy’s capacity growth and post-insolvency acquisitions are going downhill from here. JSW Energy has now officially used its option to buy out the remaining 26% of JSW Mahanadi Power Company Limited’s shareholding.

Creditors and lenders now own the remaining portion. Upon completion, JSW Energy will have full ownership of the company. In accordance with SEBI listing regulations, the information was made public. As part of a resolution plan that was accepted by the National Company Law Tribunal in March 2025, JSW Energy obtained a 74% interestin the business.

This property has changed names from KSK Mahanadi Power Company Limited. A call option clause, which held the remaining 26% stake, has now been exercised. Creditors that have taken legal action through IDBI Trusteeship Services Limited own the remaining equity. Additional information will be shared by the company once the acquisition is finalised. This is in line with JSW Energy’s plan to improve its power generation portfolio and efficiently integrate its acquired assets in the long run.

We anticipate that operational efficiency, financial consolidation, and future expansion planning will all see significant improvements with full ownership.
