The Maharatna CPSE Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) is a subsidiary of the Indian Ministry of Power, and Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra has been appointed to the positions of Chairman and Managing Director.
His background in the power transmission and telecom industries spans more than 30 years, and he most recently worked as Director (Projects) at POWERGRID.
Burra has a background in engineering and a master’s degree in business administration and project management from the Management Development Institute. He has also attended the Indian School of Business and Harvard’s Manage Mentor programs for leadership development.
He has been an integral part of POWERGRID’s growth in both strategy and operations since joining the company’s first class of Executive Trainees in 1993. His responsibilities have included project management, procurement, regulatory affairs, asset management, and telecom.
The company’s regulatory structure and its involvement in competitive bidding in the power transmission sector were both driven by Burra. He oversaw growth in telecommunications operations and launched the first data center project for Powergrid Teleservices Limited while he was CEO of the company.
Under his leadership, digitisation and operational efficiency have been given top priority. He has also improved transparency and delivery outcomes through reforms in project execution and monitoring.
This hiring shows that POWERGRID’s leadership will stay put as the company moves on with its plans to expand its infrastructure and digitally change.
