A strategic Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to support the aviation sector’s rapid expansion in India and to boost human capital development.
The three-year Bachelor of Science in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) program will be launched as part of the partnership with the goal of standardising the curriculum and making it more in line with industry needs and international standards. In order to accommodate the expanding Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) market, the program is attempting to train a new generation of workers.
The signing of the MoU by Ashwini Vaishnaw and K Ram Mohan Naidu, two Union Ministers, demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing aviation infrastructure and talent pipelines.
Prior to a gradual nationwide rollout, the program will be tested in the 2026–27 school year at a few select schools, such as GMR School of Aviation and Air India AME Academy.
In addition to providing specialised training for regulatory staff, GSV will work with DGCA to perform research in developing areas including Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). The three sectors of academia, industry, and government will work together under this cooperation to build an ecosystem.
The effort is in line with India’s larger plan to become a global aviation maintenance hub, increase domestic capability, and decrease reliance on foreign MRO services.
