While detailing the extensive steps taken by the polling authority to guarantee free, fair, and transparent Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) revealed on Sunday the election schedule for four states and one Union Territory (UT).
On April 9, voters in Assam and Kerala will cast their ballots simultaneously. Voting in the Union Territory of Puducherry is scheduled for April 9. At a press conference, CEC Gyanesh Kumar announced that all 234 seats in Tamil Nadu will be held in a single phase on April 23.
“For the 294-member West Bengal, the polling will be held in two phases. He also mentioned that elections will be place in two phases: the first for 152 seats on April 23 and the second for the remaining 142 seats on April 29.
On May 4, the outcomes of every election for the Assembly will be declared.
The CEC also announced by-elections for 8 constituencies, spread across Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tripura.
On April 23, the by-elections in Maharashtra and Gujarat will take place, while the remaining ones will take place on April 9.
On May 4, the same day as the Assembly polls, the results will also be announced for the bypolls.
This time around, there will be two stages to the voting process in West Bengal, as opposed to the eight stages that were used in the previous election, which lasted for more than a month.
When Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced the dates of the elections, he also made a passionate plea for all eligible voters to use their right to vote.
“You are about to step into one of the most important roles of life,” he remarked, addressing first-time voters exclusively. Please exercise your right to vote in this democratic process.
“Party time, work time, elections in India are a celebration of democracy,” he chimed in.
