‘Shivalik LPG Tanker’ Reaches Mundra Port Amid Supply Push

Shivalik, an LPG tanker flying the Indian flag, has safely docked at Mundra Port after setting sail from Qatar with approximately 45,000 metric tonnes of LPG, allaying fears about shipments over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, during an inter-ministerial briefing, Special Secretary Rajesh Kumar Sinha of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways announced that the vessel had successfully traversed the strategic maritime route and entered open waters.

About 92,700 metric tonnes of LPG are being transported to India by two ships under the Indian flag: Shivalik and Nanda Devi. The Shipping Corporation of India is the owner of both ships. The tanker Nanda Devi is anticipated to arrive at Kandla Port early Tuesday, while Shivalik arrived in Mundra at about 5 o’clock in the afternoon.

Indian sailors in the Persian Gulf have been informed by the administration that they are safe and sound. Official reports indicate that there are presently 22 ships flying the Indian flag and 611 sailors west of the Strait of Hormuz.

The second ship heading to Mundra is the Jag Laadki, which is transporting crude oil from the UAE with a cargo of approximately 81,000 metric tonnes. The Strait of Hormuz is still an important shipping route, and authorities keep a tight eye on marine traffic because of this. About 20% of the world’s oil and gas exports go via this passage.

In addition to monitoring ship movements and assisting with cargo operations, major ports in India are offering shipping lines and logistics partners discounts on anchorage, berth hire, and storage fees.
