In an effort to strengthen trade and investment ties with India, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced on Saturday the opening of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency’s (Apex) first India office in New Delhi.
Apex is tasked with promoting Brazilian products and services throughout the world and luring foreign capital into key areas of the Brazilian economy. According to Lula, there is a lot of space for expansion between the two main Global South economies, as evidenced by the fact that bilateral commerce reached $15.2 billion in 2025.
With almost 260 enterprises, 14 cabinet ministers, and top corporate executives, Brazil’s largest-ever overseas business delegation is travelling with Lula on his state visit to India, demonstrating trade and investment as the main pillar of engagement.
The visit coincides with changing global economic dynamics, such as tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump’s United States, which have prompted Brazil to expand its market diversification and fortify its South-South alliances.
Lula attended the India AI Impact Summit during his visit, indicating that digital public infrastructure and technological collaboration are becoming important pillars of India-Brazil ties.
