Freight Innovation: How Stainless Steel Containers are Revolutionizing Salt Logistics in India

Stainless steel containers for transporting salt have been successfully trialled by Indian Railways in the Bhimasar-Gandhidham stretch.

Cargo safety is guaranteed by these containers’ design, which minimises corrosion and enhances longevity.

With the two big doors, you can load up in under 15 minutes using a silo system or Poclain machine, and empty in under 5 minutes using a hydraulic tipping truck.

The tare weight of each container is around 3 tonnes, and since each waggon can hold two containers, a total of 68.4 tonnes of salt can be transported on a single waggon.

This new method heralds a more modern and dependable approach to goods transit in Indian Railways by eliminating the need for human cleaning, reducing moisture intrusion, and increasing overall operating efficiency.
