Assam Petro-Chemicals & DPA Sign MoU for E-Methanol Plant at Kandla

Assam Petro-Chemicals Ltd (APL), a state-level PSU under the Government of Assam has signed a substantial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) to develop a 150 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) e-Methanol plant at Kandla Port in Gujarat. They highlighted a big stride in the direction of green shipping and renewable energy. At the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Dibrugarh, Assam, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, and others participated in the signing ceremony.

In order to create an integrated value chain for green marine fuels, APL will build a green methanol production facility within the port area, while the Deen Dayal Port Authority will supply pipeline connectivity, storage, and fuel handling facilities at the port.

The plant once commissioned is projected to enable Kandla Port to emerge as a significant green fuel supply point along international maritime trade routes, including vessels operating on the Singapore–Rotterdam corridor. The development of green bunkering infrastructure, seamless integration with shipping demand, and lower logistical costs are just a few benefits of port-based fuel production. By drawing more deep-sea ships to Kandla Port, the facility would boost cargo flow and promote the expansion of trade throughout the nation’s interior.

APL, which is based in Assam, has lately increased its production capacity and runs one of the biggest methanol facilities in India at Namrup. The company is anticipated to be able to advance up the value chain from conventional methanol to green and e-methanol production thanks to the relationship with DPA, Kandla.
