India Reaffirms Support for International Solar Alliance Despite US Withdrawal

India reaffirms its commitment to the International Solar Alliance (ISA) following the United States’ withdrawal from 66 international organizations, including the ISA.

A senior government official stated that India will continue collaborating with ISA member countries, focusing particularly on supporting Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States in solar energy development, financing, capability building, and risk management.

This move comes in the wake of President Trump’s executive order aimed at suspending US support for multiple international groups, reflecting the administration’s distancing from climate agreements such as the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Experts view the US exit as a major setback in global climate efforts, given the nation’s prominent role as both the largest polluter and the world’s biggest economy. Additional organizations set to lose US backing include the UN Population Fund and various climate and environmental bodies.
