Union Minister of State for Coal & Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, undertook a two-day visit to NLC India Limited (NLCIL) under the aegis of Ministry of Coal, Neyveli, in Cuddalore district to review operations and key development initiatives.

On the first day, MoS chaired a comprehensive review meeting on NLCIL’s performance and future growth roadmap. Interacting with young engineers, he encouraged them to work with dedication and innovation to realise the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat.”

In the evening, while participating in a cultural programme, the Minister lauded NLCIL’s contribution to national energy security and economic development, and appreciated its initiatives in drinking water supply to Chennai, disaster support to State Governments, water conservation through programmes such as Jal Paryapt, Swachhata drives, recovery of critical minerals from overburden, and impactful CSR activities.
He also commended the company’s focus on youth skill development, calling NLCIL a key enabler of the national goal of “Viksit Bharat 2047.”
On December 28, the Minister laid the foundation stone for the “NeyveliNeer” Plant, a Ministry of Coal–conceptualised initiative to utilise mine water for producing treated drinking water.
The project aims to supply affordable, purified water to nearby communities with no profit motive, while creating livelihood opportunities for local communities—particularly women-led Self-Help Groups. Aligned with circular economy and waste-to-wealth principles, the plant has a machinery capacity of 10,000 litres per hour with a targeted daily output of 1,00,000 litres.
During site visits, Satish Chandra Dubey toured Mine-II, visited the Goshala, inaugurated the renovated Industrial Canteen, and explored the Eco-Park—an exemplary land reclamation project converting erstwhile mining land into a thriving ecosystem. At the Neyveli New Thermal Power Station (NNTPS), he virtually inaugurated an Electric Vehicle Charging Station at NTPL, Tuticorin, featuring a 120 kW charger for four-wheelers and a 10 kW charger for two-wheelers to promote e-mobility.
The Minister also visited NLCIL’s Heritage Museum, “Parampariyam,” showcasing the company’s seven-decade legacy, and “Ananda Illam,” a home for the elderly run under NLCIL’s CSR initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, CMD Prasanna Kumar Motupalli highlighted NLCIL’s ambitious growth plans, including tripling power generation capacity, doubling mining capacity, and scaling renewable energy sevenfold, backed by a planned capital expenditure of ₹1.25 lakh crore.
He credited the continued guidance and support of Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and MoS Satish Chandra Dubey for resolving project constraints, boosting investor confidence, and driving a fivefold increase in NLCIL’s market capitalisation.
