The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), Argentina, have formalized a Work Plan for 2025-2027 aimed at enhancing bilateral agricultural collaboration.
This agreement was signed by the Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and ICAR’s Director General, along with the Argentine Ambassador to India.
The plan focuses on areas such as natural resource management, sustainable agronomy—including zero tillage, mechanization, micro-irrigation, and fertigation—crop and animal biotechnology, and digital agriculture.
It outlines joint research efforts, germplasm exchange, expert engagements, and structured training programs encompassing various agricultural aspects including greenhouse vegetable production, veterinary diagnostics, and precision livestock farming.
Furthermore, both nations aim to advance cooperation in oilseeds and pulses value chains, agricultural mechanization, and horticultural development. This includes region-specific initiatives like Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) elimination strategies and enhanced locust surveillance.
The commitment to the India-Argentina scientific partnership was reiterated, with plans for annual reviews to monitor the progress of the collaboration.
Argentine Ambassador Mariano Caucino remarked that this agreement is a significant outcome of a recent summit between President Milei and PM Modi, emphasizing the strong economic complementarity between the two countries and acknowledging the contributions of agriculture attache Mariano Beheran since 2019.
