SAIL Q2 FY27 Net Profit Jumps 315% to ₹1,774 Crore

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Steel, Government of India, has reported a remarkable 315% year-on-year increase in standalone net profit to ₹1,774 crore for the second quarter of FY 2026–27, compared with ₹427 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

Higher steel sales volumes, improved operational efficiencies, and sustained cost optimisation initiatives supported the strong financial performance, reflecting the company’s ability to strengthen profitability amid evolving market conditions.

SAIL’s revenue from operations rose nearly 20% to ₹31,998 crore in the July–September 2026 quarter, up from ₹26,704 crore in the same period last year. The company also recorded sequential profit growth, with net profit rising from ₹1,636 crore in the April–June quarter.

Steel sales volumes grew about 5% year-on-year to 5.16 million tonnes, up from 4.91 million tonnes in Q2 FY26. Crude steel production increased to 4.85 million tonnes from 4.65 million tonnes, highlighting improved production performance and market demand.

The company’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) reached ₹4,561 crore during the quarter, compared with ₹2,829 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.

SAIL also delivered a strong performance in the first half of FY27, with standalone net profit rising to ₹3,410 crore from ₹1,112 crore in the year-ago period, representing growth of about 207%.

Revenue from operations for the six months rose to ₹58,243 crore, compared with ₹52,625 crore in H1 FY26, while EBITDA increased to ₹8,917 crore from ₹5,754 crore.

Commenting on the company’s performance, Dr A. K. Panda, Chairman and Managing Director, SAIL, highlighted the organisation’s operational resilience, financial discipline and strategic adaptability in navigating global market volatility.

He attributed the improved performance to India’s infrastructure expansion, growing domestic steel demand, higher sales volumes and enhanced production efficiency.

SAIL continues to focus on strengthening its financial position through cost rationalisation, inventory management, improving techno-economic parameters and increasing the contribution of high-value steel products to its overall portfolio.

The company’s outstanding debt stood at ₹20,583 crore, reflecting its ongoing efforts to reduce borrowings and strengthen its balance sheet.

With domestic infrastructure development and industrial activity supporting steel consumption, SAIL remains focused on enhancing competitiveness, improving productivity and maintaining financial discipline.

The latest quarterly results underline the company’s improved operational and financial performance, reinforcing its position as a major contributor to India’s steel industry and infrastructure development.
