Sanjay Kumar Appointed MD and CEO of Petronet LNG

Sanjay Kumar Petronet LNG leadership transition will take effect on May 13, 2027, when GAIL Director (Marketing) Sanjay Kumar assumes charge as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD and CEO) of Petronet LNG Limited.

The Board of Directors of Petronet LNG approved Sanjay Kumar’s appointment at its meeting held on October 2, 2026. The decision followed the recommendation of the Board’s Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

Kumar currently serves as Director (Marketing) at GAIL (India) Limited. He will succeed the incumbent chief of Petronet LNG when the position falls vacant on May 13, 2027.

Sanjay Kumar to Take Charge at Petronet LNG

The appointment of Sanjay Kumar will become effective from May 13, 2027, the scheduled date on which the position of MD and CEO will fall vacant.

The appointment has been announced more than seven months ahead of the effective date. This provides a defined timeline for the leadership transition at Petronet LNG.

Sanjay Kumar Brings GAIL Marketing Experience

Kumar currently holds the position of Director (Marketing) at GAIL (India) Limited, a major natural gas company in India.

His appointment comes as Petronet LNG continues to play a key role in the country’s natural gas supply chain. The company imports liquefied natural gas (LNG) and supplies regasified natural gas to domestic customers.

Petronet LNG Operates Dahej and Kochi Terminals

Petronet LNG operates LNG import and regasification terminals at Dahej in Gujarat and Kochi in Kerala.

The company’s terminals support the import and supply of natural gas to domestic customers. Its operations form part of India’s broader natural gas infrastructure.

Sanjay Kumar to Lead Petronet LNG from May 2027

As MD and CEO, Sanjay Kumar will take charge of Petronet LNG from May 13, 2027.

The leadership transition comes as India continues to expand natural gas infrastructure and consumption. Petronet LNG’s operational performance, capacity utilisation and role in the domestic gas market will remain important areas for the company.
