Sustainable Mining is set to receive a further boost as Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Ltd (CMPDI) and the Quality Council of India (QCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi. The agreement will focus on ESG practices, climate action, GHG accounting and environmental governance in the mining sector.
CMPDI, QCI Sign MoU for Sustainable Mining
Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Ltd (CMPDI) and the Quality Council of India (QCI) have signed an MoU to strengthen sustainable mining practices and environmental governance.
The MoU was signed in New Delhi by Smt. Punam Singh, General Manager (Environment), CMPDI, and Prof. (Dr.) Varinder S. Kanwar, CEO, National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET), QCI.
The signing ceremony was attended by Shri Chaudhari Shivraj Singh, CMD, CMPDI, and Shri Chakravarthy T. Kanan, Secretary General, QCI. Senior officials from both organisations were also present.
The agreement will support greater cooperation in sustainable mining, ESG practices and climate action.
Sustainable Mining and ESG Capabilities
Under the MoU, CMPDI and QCI will work to strengthen technical capabilities related to sustainable mining and ESG practices.
The collaboration will cover key areas such as:
- Sustainable mining and ESG practices
- Environmental governance and climate action
- GHG accounting and carbon management
- Environmental and climate assessments
The initiative will also help CMPDI expand its consultancy services. These services will focus on low-carbon and environmentally responsible mining practices.
Joint Studies and Capacity Building
CMPDI and QCI will undertake joint technical studies and research under the collaboration. The two organisations will also conduct capacity-building programmes for relevant stakeholders.
The MoU will support environmental benchmarking and pilot projects. It will also facilitate the development of innovative methodologies and quality standards for the mining sector.
These initiatives are expected to strengthen technical knowledge and promote the adoption of quality-based environmental practices.
QCI to Support Sustainable Mining Standards
QCI works to promote quality standards across different sectors. It undertakes accreditation, assessment and capacity-building activities through its boards, including NABET.
The collaboration will provide CMPDI with access to additional technical expertise in environmental and climate-related areas. It will also support the development of frameworks and practices relevant to sustainable mining.
The partnership is aimed at strengthening CMPDI’s role as a technical and knowledge partner in the mining sector.
Focus on Climate Action and Low-Carbon Mining
The MoU places emphasis on climate action, GHG accounting and carbon management. These areas are increasingly relevant to mining companies working to improve environmental performance.
CMPDI and QCI will explore technical and quality-focused approaches to support low-carbon and environmentally responsible mining.
The collaboration is expected to contribute to stronger environmental practices and quality standards across the mining sector.
