BCCL Review: PMO Advisor Tarun Kapoor Assesses Key Projects

The BCCL Projects portfolio was reviewed by Advisor to the Prime Minister Shri Tarun Kapoor during his two-day visit to Dhanbad. The review covered mining operations, major projects, technology, safety measures and future growth plans at Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

BCCL Projects Focus on Production and Growth

The review of BCCL Projects covered coal production, offtake, reserves and operational capacity. Officials also discussed production targets up to 2030-31 and reviewed the performance of underground and opencast mines.

The meeting examined BCCL’s production potential and plans for the next five years. It also reviewed overburden removal and measures to improve operational efficiency.

BCCL Projects to Expand Mining Technology

Advanced mining technology was another key focus of the BCCL Projects review. Officials discussed the use of Longwall Mining and Highwall Mining across BCCL operations.

Plans to expand the use of Surface Miners and Continuous Miners were also reviewed. The company also discussed the restructuring of opencast blocks in the Jharia Coalfield.

BCCL’s plans to redevelop discontinued mines through the MDO/Revenue Sharing model were also examined. Washeries, washing capacity and measures to improve coal quality formed part of the review.

BCCL Projects Support Coking Coal Supply

Shri Tarun Kapoor highlighted BCCL’s strategic role in meeting India’s coking coal requirements. He called for scientific and optimal use of available resources.

He also stressed the need to increase capacity and improve operational efficiency. These measures are aimed at supporting sustainable growth and improving profitability.

Moonidih BCCL Projects Come Under Review

During his visit, Shri Kapoor inspected the CBM Block-I Project at Moonidih. Officials briefed him on CBM gas extraction technology, project progress and implementation plans.

He also inspected the Moonidih XVI Seam Longwall Project. The visit focused on mechanised underground mining and its role in ensuring a reliable supply of prime coking coal.

BCCL Projects Include Fire Safety and Rehabilitation

Shri Kapoor inspected the ENA Fire Project in the Kusunda Area. He reviewed fire management, safety arrangements and scientific monitoring measures.

The review covered fire detection, thermal and satellite-based monitoring, excavation and phased rehabilitation of affected areas. Shri Kapoor also interacted with families living in high-risk areas and discussed their safety and rehabilitation concerns.

Next Phase of BCCL Projects

On September 1, Shri Kapoor is scheduled to visit the Belgaria and Karmatand rehabilitation sites. He will also review matters related to the Revised Jharia Master Plan with concerned stakeholders.

The visit is expected to provide further direction for BCCL Projects covering production, technology, safety, rehabilitation and long-term capacity development.
