The ₹1,264 crore Ballari-Guntakal rail multitracking project, a massive infrastructural endeavour to increase railway capacity in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, has been greenlit by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Approximately 46 km of new railway track will be laid as part of the project.
With the railway development, about 99 villages, home to a total of almost seven lakh people, will have better access to transport and enhanced passenger connectivity. Popular tourist spots, such as Ballari Fort and Sri Kumara Swamy Temple, will be better connected thanks to the upgraded corridor.
Commodities like as coal, limestone, iron, steel, food grains, fertilisers and iron ore pass along the Ballari-Guntakal railway line, an important freight corridor. The extra rail lines will alleviate congestion on the congested route and boost freight carrying capacity by 16.22 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
Project goals include better multi-modal connectivity, more efficient logistics, and easier movement of people and goods; it is part of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. Improved operational efficiency and service dependability would also be seen by Indian Railways as a result of the enhanced line capacity.
Environmental benefits, according to the government, will include a 1.32 crore litre drop in oil imports and a 6.67 crore kg drop in carbon dioxide emissions, which is the same as growing approximately 0.27 crore trees. In addition to enhancing India’s railway infrastructure, the investment is anticipated to boost regional development and create job opportunities.
