Government Unlikely to Extend Landing and Parking Fee Waiver for Airlines at Major Airports

Allegedly, the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), which oversees airport tariffs, will not likely prolong the 25% reduction in landing and parking fees for domestic flights at major airports.

In response to the financial difficulties experienced by airlines due to the unrest in West Asia, the AERA, after a direction from the civil aviation ministry, declared on April 7 a three-month exemption for all domestic flights. According to Monday’s sources, airport operators still haven’t gotten an extension order for the cut landing and parking fees, and the waiver has already expired.

The civil aviation ministry did not provide a reaction to the matter immediately. All major airports will see a 25% reduction in landing and parking fees, which are part of the aeronautical tariff. In its order dated April 7, AERA stated that the reduction would be effective immediately and would be applicable to all domestic flights for a duration of three months. “After due consideration, the authority has decided to implement the directions issued by the government,” it stated.

Last month, APAO, an association representing private airports, urged the ministry to end the decreased landing and parking costs for domestic flights after the three-month period and let airport operators recoup the lost revenue from airlines.
