Puri–Koraput Express Launched as Government Unveils ₹300 Crore Brahmapur Station Redevelopment Plan

The daily Brahmapur-Udhna (Surat) Amrit Bharat Express and the inaugural Puri-Koraput Express Special from Puri were flagged off by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, respectively, marking another big step towards improving rail connectivity across the state of Odisha.

When the Puri-Koraput Express finally takes off, it will finally connect the holy city of Puri with the remote tribal area of Koraput via train, satisfying a long-standing public desire. Connecting numerous significant towns across coastal, western, and southern Odisha, the service will be advantageous to pilgrims, visitors, students, patients, traders, and local communities.

Previously operating triweekly, the Brahmapur-Udhna Amrit Bharat Express is now running daily, making travel between Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat even more convenient for travellers. Staff, students, business travellers, and families on the go should find the increased frequency to be a boon to their mobility.

As part of their tour, the leaders checked in on Rath Yatra 2026 preparations and the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’s continuing reconstruction of Puri Railway Station. Indian Railways will run over 300 special trains, build holding facilities to accommodate over 30,000 devotees, and improve passenger amenities, ticketing, safety, and crowd management in order to make sure that the event goes off without a hitch, according to the Railway Minister.

Ashwini Vaishnaw made the announcement at Brahmapur on the 300 crore makeover of Brahmapur Railway Station. The new station would be a top-notch transportation hub with state-of-the-art passenger amenities, easier accessibility, modern architecture, and smooth multimodal connectivity. A dedicated rail service will soon be available to North Odisha, he added, satisfying a long-standing desire in the region.

Expanding railway infrastructure across Odisha, improving regional connectivity, and supporting the vision of Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat through better transport and economic opportunities are all priorities for the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to the Railway Minister.
