POWERGRID has secured its ninth TBCB project of FY 2026-27, with annual transmission charges of ₹430.67 crore for a renewable power evacuation system.
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has emerged as the successful bidder for an Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) project under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process.
The POWERGRID TBCB project carries annual transmission charges of ₹430.67 crore and will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis.
The project is titled “Common Transmission System for evacuation of power from Lakadia (Phase-II: 7.5GW), Jam Khambhaliya (Phase-II: 5.5GW) and Jamnagar (Phase-I: 1GW) – Part-C.”
POWERGRID received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on September 25, 2026, and disclosed the award to the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE on September 26, 2026.
POWERGRID TBCB Project Includes Alephata Substation
The POWERGRID TBCB project includes the establishment of a new 765/400/220 kV Alephata Substation in Maharashtra.
The scope also covers associated 765 kV and 400 kV transmission lines, transmission equipment and bays.
The new infrastructure will support the evacuation of renewable power from development zones in Gujarat.
These include Lakadia, Jam Khambhaliya and Jamnagar.
POWERGRID Secures Ninth TBCB Project in FY27
The latest award takes POWERGRID’s tally to nine transmission system projects secured through the TBCB route during FY 2026-27 so far.
The nine projects represent cumulative annual transmission charges of ₹7,664.08 crore.
The latest POWERGRID TBCB project accounts for ₹430.67 crore of the cumulative annual transmission charges.
The award comes amid continued expansion of India’s transmission network to integrate large-scale renewable power generation.
Transmission Project to Strengthen Renewable Power Evacuation
The transmission system will facilitate the evacuation of renewable power and support its integration with the national transmission grid.
The project will also strengthen inter-state power transfer capacity as renewable generation expands across Gujarat and other regions.
The new Alephata substation and associated transmission lines will add to the infrastructure required for reliable power evacuation.
POWERGRID to Develop Project Under BOOT Model
Under the BOOT model, POWERGRID will develop, own and operate the transmission assets in accordance with the applicable project framework.
The assets will subsequently be transferred as prescribed under the project structure.
The POWERGRID TBCB project further expands the company’s transmission portfolio and supports the development of infrastructure for India’s growing renewable energy capacity.
