Washington Pushes 15-Point Peace Plan to Iran Amid Rising Conflict

According to media reports citing authorities, the US has put forward a comprehensive 15-point plan to Iran to stop the conflict and dismantle Tehran’s nuclear program.

The plan, which was put up by the Trump administration, lays out a wide-ranging strategy to end the war, limit Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities, and change the way Iran interacts with its neighbours.

The main nuclear facilities in Iran—Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow—must be dismantled, and uranium enrichment on Iranian soil must be entirely stopped. These are important measures. Iran is also required to deliver its enriched material to the IAEA by a certain date, according to the plan.

The plan calls for a month-long truce and Iran’s solemn pledge to never seek nuclear weapons, with unfettered access for foreign inspectors to ensure adherence.

Re-establishing a safe and open shipping channel through the Strait of Hormuz and reducing Iran’s backing for proxy organisations are two regional goals of the strategy. The next steps in limiting Iran’s military capabilities to those necessary for self-defence would likely involve negotiations on missile restrictions, including as limits on range and storage.

In exchange, the plan proposes the US to back a civilian nuclear energy program that is overseen, including development at Bushehr, and the relaxation of sanctions connected to nuclear power. The “snapback” system, which allows for the automatic reimposition of sanctions, must also be removed.

Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt are intermediaries that are facilitating diplomatic attempts and discussion between Washington and Tehran.

Continual military activity across the region involving Israel and Gulf nations like Kuwait, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia indicates that tensions remain elevated despite the plan.

Amid persistent geopolitical and economic pressure, the war has entered its fourth week, but President Trump has taken an optimistic tack, saying that talks are taking place and that Iran is amenable to a compromise.
