Indian Railways is implementing a rationalized passenger fare structure starting December 26, aimed at balancing affordability for passengers with operational sustainability.
There will be no changes to fares for suburban services and season tickets. For Ordinary Non-AC services, fares have been adjusted by distance; no increase for journeys up to 215 km, a Rs 5 rise for journeys between 216 km and 750 km, and increasing increments for longer distances, reaching Rs 20 for journeys between 1751 km and 2250 km.
In Sleeper Class Ordinary and First Class Ordinary, fares have been uniformly increased by 1 paise per kilometer for non-suburban journeys. Mail and Express train fares will rise by 2 paise per kilometer across all classes. Major train services’ basic fares have also been revised uniformly.
Notably, there will be no changes to reservation fees or ancillary charges, and GST applicability remains the same. The new fare structure will apply only to tickets booked on or after December 26, 2025, with previous bookings unaffected even for journeys taken later. Updated fare lists will be displayed at stations from the effective date.
