Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is poised to significantly enhance regional and global connectivity, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated its first phase on October 8.
He emphasized that NMIA will ease congestion at the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and position Mumbai as a major global hub.
The project, inspired by the lotus flower and built on historic land, is part of a broader governmental effort to increase India’s aviation capacity and ensure affordable air travel, exemplified by the UDAN Yojana.
Modi highlighted substantial growth in India’s airport infrastructure, from 74 to over 160 airports since 2014, and the government’s commitment to establishing India as a global Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub by the decade’s end.
Additionally, he inaugurated Mumbai Metro Line 3, underscoring ongoing infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing ‘Ease of Living’ for citizens. Modi reiterated the government’s focus on uplifting marginalized groups and fostering economic growth through strategic transport investments.
